On September 11, 2001, the 50th presentation of the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung opened at the Messe Frankfurt convention center in Germany. We spent the day trekking between no fewer than nine halls, attending press conferences, looking at new cars and getting very sore feet.
At 4 p.m., local time, a Hyundai public relations official, who was about to unveil the redesigned Tiburon, informed the gathered press that something horrific had occurred in the United States. He had little information about specific details and proceeded to cancel the press conference after somberly removing the cover from the new car.
Like you, we found a television, we watched CNN, and we wished we could be home. Instead, we spent nearly a week on the other side of the Atlantic, talking about the unbelievable events that occurred in New York City and Washington D.C. on the morning of September 11, writing about cars and trying to figure out how we'd get back to our families.
So here's the coverage, which in the greater scheme of things, really doesn't matter much.
